In 1663 William Hilton landed on what would become later known, as Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. If you are going on vacation to Hilton Head , you are visiting a location that is rich in history and natural beauty. Hilton Head's natural beauty is almost the same today as it was over 300 years ago when William Hilton first laid eyes upon it. It could be that William Hilton himself is looking down with a smile. A South Carolina Vacation is one filled with all the things that you love to do when you can get away from the same old daily routine. The island is more than 45 miles square. When it comes to the east coast, Hilton Head Island, is the next to the largest barrier island. It is quaintly located between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Both of these cities hold historic value to the area. Hilton Head Island itself held a major battle in the Civil War. The island is home to some 240 restaurants, which is pretty remarkable for an island that is only 12 miles long and 5 miles wide. Especially when there are some 200 shops to choose from as well. And that's not all. You will also find 12 miles of some of the most beautiful sandy beaches on earth. There are also 50 miles of bike trails for the rugged bike enthusiast. If golf is more to your liking, there are 22 championship golf courses on Hilton Head. Every year at least 2 national pro golf events are held there. You will also find 225 tennis courts on the island. If you are a boating enthusiast you will find great boating, fishing, sailing and kayaking. Hilton Head is a very family friendly destination. As a matter of fact, it ranks in the top 10 family friendly locations in the United States. There are museums to check out and theatres to enjoy. There is a little something for everyone who wants to just get away at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. There are other beaches along the Carolina Coasts, but there is something special about a Hilton Head Island vacation that just can't be explained in mere words. Although, it is a national resort area, it comes across as something a little different. The area has worked hard to establish a wonderful feeling of peace and tranquility. They strive hard to make you feel welcome from the moment you drive across the bridge and onto the island. The homes and businesses were not designed to jump out at you, but rather to highlight the beauty of the island that surrounds it. Down through the years measures were always taken to maintain this natural beauty. If you are planning a vacation, it would serve you well to consider a Hilton Head Island vacation.
