ID Badge Rollout: How to Implement an ID Card Program
By Kelsey Williams
When you implement a new system in your organization, it is important the proper preparations are done to avoid the nightmare feeling. When prepared and organized, the process is much easier to begin. Following are some thoughts about preparation for implementing an ID card program in your workplace or group. System Selection: Choosing the ID card printer and software that meets the requirements of the organization is critical. The system needs to be installed and tested prior to implementation so that the beginning of the process is efficient. Consumables: Small items are easy to misplace. Badge clips, lanyards, print ribbons are all important to have available in the process. Having a few more than needed is important when beginning something new. Cards: Another item to have available is cards. Whether simple PVC plastic or high tech security cards, a good supply of cards is important when testing and proceeding with card making. Training: Make sure system operators have the training necessary to run the program efficiently. Once those selected to work the system are finalized, provide training on software and printing so that they can complete the job assigned. The photographer may wish to set up a practice shoot to make sure that the photographs will be consistent in sizing and background. Other Tips: Schedule the picture taking day well in advance and provide ample communication about the schedule. This will avoid frustration by employees and long lines. It may be best to schedule picture taking on one day and card production and distribution on other days. This will allow for additional time to work the process at the beginning of the program. When time is taken to plan the details of implementing an ID card program, the process will be smooth. |
